History
Three generations of entrepreneurs: a company of over one hundred years.
Establishment
It began with Mr Paioli Ricciotti and his first firm dating from 31 January 1911. He dealt with trade, bicycle and accessory repair. The business was successful and continued to grow even during the economic crisis of ‘29 until the tragic bombing of its workshop in 1943.
Second generation
The founder’s daughters, Laura and Loredana, dealt with the reconstruction that followed the devastation caused by the second world war. They re-launched the company, making it even more competitive thanks to the intuition and the final invention of their father; the revolutionary rolling machine. This is the entry in the motorcycle market: Guzzi, Benelli, Garelli and Ducati. In 1954 they established three locations: one used for retail sales of moped accessories, the second dedicated to wholesale fishing gear, and the third for the construction of moped springs and fenders.
Paioli Sport and Reglass
Diversification began in 1961. Loredana Paioli embarked upon the sporting goods market, as well as launching productions that used phenolic resins. And so it was born: Paioli Sport and Reglass.
Third generation, the first carbon fiber fishing rods
The third generation of entrepreneurs now entered the game. The three sons of Loredana Paioli began to personally involve themselves in the business. Paolo and Massimo Pirazzini were at Paioli Sport, and Luca at Reglass for the creation and study of the tubular parts of fishing rods, as well as general sporting goods (windsurfing, bicycles, and ski poles). At the end of the seventies, Reglass H.T. was founded – a company that had always been dedicated to the research of and innovation in raw materials and products – that, after thorough testing, began the production of carbon fibre composites. The use of this material revolutionised sports equipment, improving most sport’s performance, particularly fishing. The brand Maver (ie fibreglass materials) was born; specifically dedicated to this field.
Reglass H.T.
Reglass doesn’t limit itself to the production of fishing rods. Luca Pirazzini exports this quality and advanced technology to other sporting areas, proposing carbon bicycle frames, and windsurfing masts, later. The brand MaverX was born, and from then on “the brand with the X” has been synonymous with the kind of high quality that only the perfect marriage of artisan craftsmanship and technology can create.
In the late 90s, the company made its debut in industrial production. They changed printing techniques, developing the production of tissue and paper products. Above all quality and speed became increasingly sought after by producers. So began Reglass H.T.. After numerous tests, the company began to offer its actual printing rollers in carbon, and immediately obtained excellent market diffusion.
Fianian Maynard’s record
2005 marks the pinnacle of Reglass’s success. Finian Maynard, an athlete from the British Virgin Islands, beat the absolute speed record for sailboats (48.72 knots, or over 90km/hr) with a windsurf fitted out with a MaverX mast. It had been 15 years since the record had last been broken in St. Marie de la Mer, France.
Sismocell
The most recent innovation has been: Sismocell, cylindrical carbon fibre tubes designed for the seismic improvement of prefabricated industrial buildings. A device of metal and carbon fibre, when applied at the node beam-pillar it allows seismic energy to dissipate, cancelling to a certain extent its destructive effects. The device has been patented and certified according to the provisions of current European legislation.
In 2012 Reglass won the prestigious Premio Mascagni. Sponsored by Unindustria Bologna and the daily newspaper Il Resto del Carlino, it’s given to the most innovative businesses of the year.
